STATIONS & OTHER FACILITIES

HQ 21 Court StreetThe City of Cortland Fire Department has two fire stations staffed around the clock.

Our Headquarters, located at 21 Court Street, is a historical building built in 1914. We believe it is the second oldest continuously working firehouse listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. The building is located next door to City Hall, which also houses the Code Enforcement, City Court and Cortland Police Department and numerous city services. Listed on the Historical Register, the Headquarters building is unique in its architecture and has had few changes to the interior over the years. Its location is ideal … in the center of the city, accessible to all the major routes. Headquarters houses two engines, a reserve ladder truck, and a heavy rescue truck. It is also home to the administrative offices of the City of Cortland Fire Chief and his staff.

Station 2 19 South Franklin StreetStation 2 is located on the southeast area of the City of Cortland on the other side of the railroad tracks from headquarters. It houses an engine and a ladder truck. Station 2 is part of an open span building, which also provides work spaces for the police, youth bureau and public safety division.

The Code Enforcement Office is located at 25 Court Street on the second floor of City Hall. During regular business hours the staff is available to assist with permits, inspections and complaints. In addition you may contact the city zoning officer through this office. After hours emergency complaints will be responded to by station personnel. Questions will be referred to the appropriate code enforcement official for follow up.

The former NYS Armory, located on Wheeler Avenue, has bays that house reserve fire apparatus, technical rescue trailers and the antique fire apparatus used by the volunteer firefighters for parades. There is also a recreation room for the volunteer staff. This facility is shared by many city and county agencies, and is the site of the Fire Department’s Community First Aid and CPR Courses.
